Hi guys, I’m Frederic.
I’ve been writing and publishing about natural health, plant-based, and the raw diet since 1998! My first book, The Sunfood Cuisine, was published in 2002, when I was 25.
On this website, you will find my in-depth analysis of many current health controversies.
Here’s a short list of the books and programs I’ve written:
- The Raw Secrets (which you can read for free on this website).
- Raw Food Controversies
- The Sunfood Cuisine
- The Greatest Cure on Earth (a program about fasting)
- How to Learn Any Language in a Flash
- How to Heal Dental Disasters
You’ll notice that I also teach how to learn languages, having taught myself English, Spanish, German, along with Italian and Portuguese (the last two are my “minor” languages), and bits of other languages. My native language is French.
I’m originally trained as a musician (classical guitar), but switched my career plans to start writing about health.
I promote a plant-based diet, ideally without salt, oil and sugar.
I’m also encourage the intelligent use of water fasting.
Didn’t You Use to be a Raw-Foodist? Why Don’t You Eat a Raw Diet Anymore?
Judging from what I eat, some people would say I’m a raw foodists. Purists would say no.
I’ve been eating a largely raw diet for over 20 years. The longest I went on 100% raw foods was over three years. I find the raw food diet to be a wonderful therapy, and I think that when properly done, it is a healthy diet that works for a lot of people. I also find benefits in eating a both raw and cooked foods, to get the best of both worlds.
I’ve been around many famous raw foodists and although many claim to eat a 100% raw food diet, they don’t do so in private. It’s not just about eating raw or cooked foods, it’s about WHAT foods you eat raw or cooked.
Many of the arguments used to promote a raw food diet are unscientific and needlessly confuse the public. For example, food enzymes are not necessary for our own digestion, and cooking food does not necessarily render it “toxic.”
The main benefits of the raw food diet actually come from the foods that it eliminates: refined foods, animal products and salt. We can get the benefits of a raw food diet without many of the potential problems by simply eating raw and cooked vegetables, fruit, whole plant foods, and a minimal amount of “rich foods” and animal products.
Why Do You Fast? Isn’t Water Fasting a Bit Crazy and Won’t It Mess Up Your Metabolism?
I discovered water fasting when I was only 19, when I tried my first 3-day water fast. Like many, I have experienced many outstanding benefits from the practice of intermittent fasting, as well as occasionally going on a supervised, longer fast.
There are too many myths about fasting to debunk here. Let’s just say that there’s a reason why fasting has been part of every single major spiritual tradition. Our bodies are designed to fast on an occasional basis. It may not be for everyone, but it’s certainly a powerful health practice to know about.
Here’s my Short Bio
Frederic Patenaude is a health author, activist and blogger. He’s been writing and publishing about health and nutrition since the age of 18. He started seriously researching personal and preventative natural health therapies when he was struck with the reality that heart disease ran deep in his family and if he didn’t change the way he was living — he might go down that same path. After trying a raw food diet for many years, he eventually found a more sustainable approach that incorporates the best of the traditions of raw foods, vegetarianism and the latest in clinical nutrition.
He is the author of several books including Raw Food Controversies. Frederic lives in the province of Quebec, Canada, but is a world traveler who has visited over 35 countries and continues reaching people from every continent with his health message.
