GOJI BERRIES
“I just read a few of the articles on your website. I noticed you said to basically avoid all dried fruits. Does this mean you disagree with the intake of Goji berries? They seem to be pretty highly thought of by some raw foodists. What is your take on them?”
ANSWER: One thing with Goji berries is that a lot of claims are being made about its nutritional value, but I've never seen a complete nutritional analysis of those dried berries to back those claims up. So as far as I'm concerned, there's a lot of hype surrounding this product, not to talk about the super-high markup on something we basically only have heard rumors about.
GOJI BERRY JUICE
“What do you think about goji berry juice?”
ANSWER: I had the occasion to try a bottle of Goji Berry Juice lately. For those who don't know, goji berries are a highly nutritive dried fruit that is sold as a “superfood.” Now a multi-level marketing company is selling a product called “goji juice.” I must say that this juice is rather delicious. That's the good thing about it. The rest: at $40 US a bottle, plus shipping, it's hard to find a better rip-off in the world of supplement. This “special” juice is nothing more than grape and apple juice mixed with reconstituted goji juice with a few artificial preservatives thrown in there. On the bottle, we can read some ancient “legend” about the discovery of the goji berry in the Himalayans, and that's the only justification for charging this outrageous price for this ordinary juice. As far as the health benefits are concerned, well, maybe there are some. But I'd rather spend my money on whole organic fruits and vegetables.
