ANSWER: I do not have a pet (I travel too much for that at this point). However, I love animals and when I'll have a dog I'll feed it raw foods. However, dogs and cats have different needs than humans. They do not thrive well eating just fruits and vegetables. They need much more fat than us, and cannot handle carbohydrates very well. They also require certain nutrients found in meat (especially cats).
There's a book on the subject that you can read. It's called “Raw Dog Food” - I got it on Amazon.com. There are also several websites on the BARF diet for cats and dogs (BARF stands for Biologically Appropriate Raw Food). Just do a Google search for “Barf Diet” and you'll find tons of information.
