Eat This Not That – Beat Sugar Cravings

Sugar is a huge part of our society and it is hidden everywhere! If you have ever tried to cut out all sugar you know how difficult it can be.

Sugar is so bad for you, causing all kinds of issues like dental cavities, to weight gain, to foggy brain and headaches – it really taxes your system and can cause major health problems.

It acts in your brain just like a drug, so eating it will make you want to eat it more. Your body then becomes conditioned to seek out snacks and food higher in sugar.

Planning your diet to exclude sugar can be difficult.

One of the biggest, if not the biggest, obstacles is planning ahead.

You must plan meals and grocery shop ahead of time, or you will succumb to cravings.

Any time we are tired and hungry at the same time we are in danger of giving in to something easy or not great for us.

To curb these sugar cravings here are some helpful suggestions:

Instead of reaching for ice cream in the evening plan head and make some “nice” cream.

Nice cream is easy to make, and you can make many different flavors.

It’s basically blended fruit (or whatever you want to make your flavor, I have used chai tea before!), and banana. The fiber and natural sugars in the banana prevent it from freezing solid.

You just put it in the freezer and it will serve up just like ice cream.

Instead of eating chocolate such as a candy bar or M&M’s have some high quality dark chocolate on hand.

High quality dark chocolate has significantly less sugar and it will curb your craving faster than just about anything!

Another alternative to ice cream are fruit puree popsicles.

Just blend together any combination of berries or other fruits (keeping citrus separate) and add to ice cube trays or popsicle making trays.

All of these alternatives can be made ahead of time, so when the craving hits you are ready with a healthy snack that will keep you away from snacks high in sugar.

Do you have good sugary snack alternative that helps you when cravings hit?
