Interview with John Fielder, Part 2
This is the second part in our interview with John Fielder from Queensland, Australia. Enjoy! Part three is coming soon.
REMINDER: I will be on Kevin Gianni’s GREAT HEALTH DEBATE this Saturday against Mark Sisson, of the Primal Blueprint. I will be promoting vegetarianism and a fruit-based diet and promise to demolish my opponents! The Great Health Debate is THE raw food event of the year. And best of all, it’s free.
Frederic Patenaude has been an important influence in the raw food and natural health movement since he started writing and publishing in 1998, first by being the editor of Just Eat an Apple magazine. He is the author of over 20 books, including The Raw Secrets, the Sunfood Cuisine and Raw Food Controversies. Since 2013 he’s been the Editor-in-Chief of Renegade Health.
Frederic loves to relentlessly debunk nutritional myths. He advocates a low-fat, plant-based diet and has had over 10 years of experience with raw vegan diets. He lives in Montreal, Canada.

I could not hear the speaker clear enough
I can’t view this video…it says it’s private.
Hi everyone sorry. The video is public now. We were on a flight to Fiji today and I forgot to change it before leaving. Thanks for letting me know
Thanks for posting. Very informative, but hard to hear with my speakers.
Try using headphones, John is a soft speaker, I asked him to speak as loud as he could and the camera needed to be far enough away to be protected by the house from wind as we were sitting outside.
Too poor sound for a French listener. Certainly extremely interesting. Try to provide us with a text translation. Thanks.
Hello Fred, i notice when you do these wonderful interviews we are at a loss because we just can’t hear the person well at all. Instead of wasting your time and hard efforts to get theses interviews and no one able to hear it can you maybe have a microphone that the people can speak into, with the back ground noise and the wind and the video can far enough away from you both it is always really hard to hear you both. I would love to hear what you have to say and your guests, but we just can’t hear your videos, that is with most of them. Sorry friend. but it is true.
Hey Fredrick, if you want me to transcribe this interview, I can, as I am a medical transcriptionist. 🙂 Lori
Thanks for these videos Fredrick.
I found the sound OK.
That’s really interesting about the 93% risk reduction of cancer in rats just by restricting food intake to 6 hours in the day. I tried to find a reference so that I could read up more about that. Could you ask John Fielder to post a link about it please. I’m fascinated by stuff like this.
Thanks for all your very informative videos and emails Fred. Keep going!
Thanks for the interview, it was really great.
PLEASE HELP!!! Sorry about the caps, but I’m kinda desperate. I am new to the vegetarian world and my goal is/was to become a vegan. Now, I’m not sure what to do or what diet is best. I was planning to become a high raw vegan (eating about 70-80% raw), but with the “Health Debate” from Kevin Gianni, I’m even more confused. Some say to eat meat eating and eat animal products and others say don’t. Are there any vegans/vegetarians that have been on their current diet for more than 30 years and are healthy? Do we really need animal products? I’ve read alot of ex raw foodist & ex vegans/vegetarians that are now eating meat or including animal products into their diet. Can we get all nutrients, vitamins, minerals, and so forth that the body needs just on a vegetarian or vegan diet? I read up on Sally Fallon and got freaked out even more. She and Mr. Sisson states that we all should include meat and animal products. So confused…. 🙁 I don’t want to get sick or become malnutrition. I find myself feeling better not eating meat, but I was also told that it is wise to be on a vegetarian/vegan diet for a short period of time. Only for cleansing reasons. Please help. All comments or suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.
Hi Kanina,
THE GREAT HEALTH DEBATE CONFUSION
Just because these people appear to make their diet work doesn’t mean it is the best approach. They can’t all be right can they?!
A common theme that went through pretty much all the talks is that we need to eat more greens and whole food. The main differences were on the fat levels and animal products.
Even most of those recommending animal products suggested that we should consume small amounts.
I have found that almost without exception people mess up on their diet because they continue eating those foods that are not optimal for us, I’m thinking about nuts, seeds, oil, spices and processed ‘raw’ food. Just because these guys have written books and have lots of letters after their names doesn’t mean that they are any better at all this than you or I. They are perhaps better at writing books or giving presentations, but that doesn’t mean they are right! It just means that they have drawn their own conclusions and decided to follow a route that seems right to them.
Whenever I’ve come across people that are struggling, I find that the number one thing that holds them back from thriving is the amount of fat that they still consume. Even very small amounts of fat in some people can be detrimental. And when they do eat fat, they go and eat the wrong sorts of fat.
I would highly suggest studying what Fredrick Patenaude says. He seems just about the most knowledgeable and balanced raw foodist that I’ve seen. Also look at Dr Mcdougal’s approach (search for ‘drmcdougal’). He has a similar approach but he also includes cooked starches.
Without even reading up on ‘drmdougal’, but mainly by listening to my own body, I ended up on a very high raw, high fruit diet and some cooked carb’s. It really is a way to make yourself thrive. If you do still decide to consume animal products it should be a miniscule part of your diet, I’d suggest 1% or less calories from animal products.
Please don’t get hung up about raw food. Many cooked foods are much better than many of the high fat spiced up raw gourmet foods that just impersonate cooked food!
