I must admit the topic of sleep has always been fascinating to me. The reason is that I always considered myself someone who needed a lot of sleep.
I always felt I needed a minimum of 9 to 10 hours of sleep every night, if not more!
Whenever I would meet someone who could get by on 5 hours or 6 hours a night, I would often get jealous. Why do these people have more energy than me, yet sleep less?
I tried everything I could to maximize the power of my sleep:
I even fasted for 23 days, and during that time I slept up to 14 hours a day!
At some point I gave up on the idea of sleeping less, and I started simply "listening to my body" and sleeping as much as I wanted.
And I discovered something strange: It seemed to me that I felt less energy the more I slept, and not the other way around. Although I needed a certain amount of sleep to get by every day, if I tried to "catch up on sleep" or "get some extra sleep" — I would simply feel more tired and drowsy than ever.
